5 Tips for Low Stress, Low Fuss Holidays
Even with our best intentions to rest, recharge and refresh, holidays can be fraught with tension, overwhelm and stress. Here are 5 tips to help you make the most of your holidays this year.
Get Outside
Nature is an incredibly affordable, accessible balm for the soul, especially in this beautiful country (and with the amazing weather we’ve been having… keep it coming, weather gods!). There’s so much good to be had from detaching, detangling and decabling… try it, you won’t be disappointed.
Let it Go
(and bonus points if you hear the soundtrack from Frozen in your head as you read that!)
There’s no doubt that this time of year can be chock-full of all sorts of pressures. The truth is… there’s only 1 of you. Be realistic about what you really CAN do and, more importantly, what you WANT to do, over the next weeks. If you’re lucky enough to be taking time off, make sure you help yourself to make the most of your time. Be discerning about the obligations you choose to fulfill… and gently bless and release the rest!
Be Grateful
It’s easy to get caught up in the crazy consumerism and hype that marks this time of the year, and to be sucked into feeling resentful about all the things you don’t have. Instead, I challenge you to start and end your days with an attitude of gratitude. If this isn’t something you do consistently already, start small. Being grateful for just one thing at the beginning and end of your days is enough to fuel a powerful process that will pay great dividends the more you practice it.
Reflect On It
And no, I don’t mean make another list of new year’s resolutions we both knew you’re unlikely to keep. However you choose to do this, give yourself space to reflect on the goods, the bads and even the uglies from 2017. Taking time to corral your thoughts about how your year has really been will set you up well to decide your course for 2018. If you don’t have a direction, you can’t keep course correcting… which is great if you really want to spend another year lost in the wilds, but if you’re looking for some peace, stability and momentum going forward, I recommend you take some time to consider and plot your direction for next year.
Shake It Off
Of course this had to feature! Shaking off your stress, tension and anxiety is one of the most powerful ways to get you through the holiday period sanely, calmly and peacefully. If you haven’t already tried TRE (Tension Release Exercises), this has got to be the gift you give yourself for 2018. If you start and build your TRE practice over the coming year, I’m 100% confident you’ll be a different person this time next year. I’m pretty sure there isn’t a more (cost) effective investment you could make in your health and wellbeing for 2018.
